Two JET positions are open to Filipinos: ALT and CIR.
Assistant Language Teachers (ALTs)
ALTs are assigned to elementary, junior high, and senior high schools to assist in the English language education of Japanese students across Japan. They team-teach with Japanese teachers of English (JTEs) and may be asked to do tasks related to their classes such as planning lessons and preparing materials. A few are also put in charge of English clubs and other co- and extra-curricular activities.
Coordinators for International Relations (CIRs)
CIRs mainly work in local government offices. They must have a functional command of Nihongo (JLPT N1 or N2 preferably) as their main duty is to organize and assist in international exchange activities at the local level. They may be asked to translate or interpret for government officials, receive guests from abroad, and teach community classes.
